There is no useful answer that says every commercial dumpster should be cleaned once a month. A restaurant putting food waste into a container six days a week differs from an office where most waste is paper and packaging. The right schedule follows the property, not a generic rule.
Start with what goes into the container. Food-service waste behaves differently from office trash. Kitchens collect residue from food, leaking bags, and liquids through repeated heavy use. Waiting months between cleanings may not fit how that container is actually used. Lighter office waste may support bi-monthly or quarterly programs when buildup is slow.
Visibility matters as much as volume. Some waste areas hide behind a building. Others sit beside tenant entrances, patios, or parking lots customers use daily. A container does not have to overflow to make a poor impression. Tighter schedules often make sense when the enclosure is part of a daily traffic path.
Multiple dumpsters on one site. Multifamily and shopping centers may have several containers used at different rates. One enclosure may handle most volume; another fills slowly. Start reasonable, then adjust. Pick a cadence that seems appropriate and watch how containers behave between visits. If the area still looks and smells acceptable at the next scheduled date, the interval may be working. If odor returns halfway through, tighten frequency — especially in summer when heat accelerates film on pads and skirts.
